Finland-based Nokia, once the largest selling mobile handset manufacturer in the world, lost its position after a few missteps and ended up being discontinued by Microsoft, which acquired it in 2013. However, in 2016, it got a new lease of life in the hands of the Finland-based HMD Global Oy (HMD), a company started by former Nokia executives.
In its days of glory, Nokia was the undisputed leader mobile handsets in the Indian market and was synonymous with the Indian mobile telecom revolution. The dwindling fortunes of the parent company had an adverse impact on its Indian operations too, leading to Nokia’s disappearance from the market.
